This is a fantastic find! Finding a high-quality Barolo at Costco is the “Holy Grail” of warehouse shopping. Today, we struck gold.
For fans of Piedmont, this is a “Very Good QPR” (Quality to Price Ratio) alert. This isn’t a mass-produced “bulk” Barolo; it’s a serious bottle from third-generation owners Alessandra Bovio and Marco Boschiazzo, with winemaking handled by the talented Matteo Franchi.
The Pour
In the glass, this 100% Nebbiolo is exactly what you want: open, charming, and radiating that classic translucent garnet hue.
The nose is a classic Italian bouquet—think ripe cherry, iron, licorice, and pressed rose petals. It’s incredibly inviting right out of the gate, though a 30-minute decant really helped it sing.
Tasting Notes
On the palate, the 2020 vintage shows its strength. It’s clean and delicate but carries a medium and muscular physique.
Flavor: Juicy red fruits meeting mineral tension.
Mouthfeel: Tight and focused. It feels “bright” rather than heavy.
Finish: A heap of chalky tannins that suggest this wine has plenty of life ahead of it.
At 14.5% ABV, the alcohol is well-integrated and doesn’t heat up the finish.
